The Diocese of Wilmington's Legacy Society recognizes the valuable contributions of friends who include the Diocese, a local parish, a Catholic school, or a specific ministry or service such as Catholic Charities in their estate plans, whether that is a gift through a will, an insurance policy, a retirement plan, a charitable trust, a gift annuity, etc.
Members of the Legacy Society offer a continuous commitment of support to their Church, to the Church's vision and to the charitable works that flow from her mission through their thoughtful planned gifts. Most important, they become a member of an association that is committed to furthering the mission of Jesus Christ and the goals of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington.
Started in 2004, the Legacy Society ensures support for the Diocese of Wilmington in the future; acknowledges the thoughtful generosity of friends; encourages others to consider a planned gift to benefit the Diocese, a local parish, a Catholic school, Catholic Charities or any ministry sponsored by the Diocese.
A charitable remainder trust provides you or other named individuals income each year for life or a period not exceeding 20 years from assets you give to the trust you create.
You fund this type of trust with cash or appreciated assets—and may qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize. You can also make additional gifts; each one also qualifies for a tax deduction. The trust pays you, each year, a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. When the trust terminates, the remaining principal goes to the Diocese, your parish or a particular ministry such as Catholic Charities as a lump sum.
